Who Should Attend?

This programme is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who have to erect or monitor the erection of signing, lighting and guarding for work on the roadways and highways.

Aim

To provide Operatives and Supervisors with the skills and knowledge to perform their respective duties when signing, lighting and guarding to recognised standards in order to safeguard themselves and others.

  • Basic principles of Signing, Lighting and Guarding
  • Drawing up site plans
  • Notices required by local authorities
  • Traffic control measures & lane Closure
  • Siting, Installation & Removal of Signage (layout)
  • Portable traffic lights, Setup & Timing
  • Practical use of equipment, Monitoring of practical signing
  • Safety at Roadworks (Operatives & Public)
  • Safe systems of work

Knowledge

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles and standards involved
  • Identify and use correct traffic control measures
  •  Erect and dismantle signing, guarding and lighting safely and in accordance with the supporting Code of Practice
  • Correctly and confidently operate the equipment used

Training Methods

A high proportion of discussion and simulated assessments supplemented with video and classroom based tutorials and progress tests. Please note participants will be assessed by way of practical tests and oral questioning and involving written assignments and observation exercises.
